Statement by Fremantle Mayor-elect Ben Lawver
I am extremely humbled and honoured to have been elected Mayor of Fremantle.
Our grassroots campaign involved hundreds of people from across our port city. From folks leafletting, painting signs, hosting signs at their homes and businesses, creating content and media, to the musicians, artists, and circus folk who made our events so magical. This amalgamation of creativity and legwork, combined with so much love, is the starting point for our positive movement for a better Freo.
I would like to thank the other mayoral candidates who put themselves forward. I hope we can all work together in the coming four years to accomplish great outcomes for our city.
I would also like to thank the people who made the election possible - our Returning Officer and the staff who spent long hours over this weekend counting and sorting ballots to ensure we had a quick and accurate result.
Lastly, I would like to thank the residents of Fremantle who have put their trust in me to lead our city for the next four years. I promise to work hard and keep my focus on delivering the best outcomes for Fremantle.
Together, we can build a better Freo.
